No conservatory or orangery can be as fully functional as you would expect without the finishing touches it needs.

Lighting

Your home extension will receive lots of natural light throughout the day, but you may want to continue using it at night time.

Wall lights, floor lamps and table lamps will provide a little illumination and downlighters in a perimeter ceiling will bring the entire interior to life in the hours of darkness.

Flooring

Carpet

A carpeted floor will offer warmth and comfort underfoot, but carpet very easily stains, so you need to avoid walking in with muddy feet and prevent spillages from occurring.

Laminate

Available in an array of styles and colours so that it can mimic wood or stone flooring, laminate flooring is much easier to maintain than carpet as you only need a wet cloth to wipe away any dirt. Just ensure that any laminate flooring is capable of withstanding excessive sun exposure so that it doesn’t fade.

Wood

Traditional wood flooring is probably best avoided as heat exposure can cause it to contract and expand, causing the wood to crack and deteriorate in performance.

Bi-Folds / Patio Doors

Whilst not a necessity, the addition of a set of bi-folding doors or patio doors to your home extension will make the garden instantly accessible.

When left fully open, particularly bi-fold doors, expect your conservatory or orangery to feel as though it’s in the very heart of the garden.
