Orion will handle every aspect of the project, taking care of the design, planning, building, installation and any finishing touches (e.g. skirting boards, heating and lighting). If a planning application needs to be put together, we can organise that too, and also see to anything relating to building regulations. Your only focus should be on imagining how it will feel when you walk into the extension for the first time.

Your main point of contact during the project will be one of our Installations Managers. It will be their responsibility to keep you informed of how each individual stage is proceeding, right up until everything is complete. Before we leave, an Orion Manager will inspect the extension and check that it meets our usual high standards – please ask for a copy of our Building Standards document.

Position – Where is the extension best positioned? Do you want an element of privacy? Are the external views important to you? Once you have answered all of the questions, you will be in a position to judge what roof, windows, doors and security features you are best including in the design.

Function – What purpose will the extension serve? Will it be a place where your kids can play with their favourite toys and games, a luxury dining area, or an inviting lounge where you can unwind in paradise? This will determine how the design should be shaped. A square or rectangular design is best if you want maximum floor space, or choose an “L” shape if the extension will be multi-purpose.

Aesthetics – You need your extension to share the same kind of character that your house has. We can create a modern-looking extension, containing up-to-the-minute features, or you can opt for a more traditional look. Site Access – We need to be able to have easy access at your home. Large materials and items will need to be unloaded by trucks and lorries, and there needs to be space for parking and tools.

Demands on your Boiler – Is your existing boiler energy efficient enough to heat your extension thoroughly without it costing you a fortune. If not, it should be replaced beforehand, or you could install underfloor heating.

Some home extensions need building regulations approval before they can be constructed. However, there are certain forms of home extension that are exempt and can automatically be built. Our surveyors will have a good idea of whether your extension is likely to be subject to planning laws and building regulations, and provide the necessary assistance when it is.

We can get into contact with your local planning authority to obtain the relevant permissions. Once they give the green light, Orion Windows can begin work.

Your chosen roofing system will influence the aesthetics of the design, and it also needs to keep the extension well insulated. We stock four separate types of roofing system and they come in a variety of coloured finishes.

Modern Tile – The materials we use to craft our modern tiles help to make them unbelievably stylish, sleek and easy to install. It will come as no surprise that they look fantastic when added to contemporary extensions. You can have the tiles finished in colours of green, red, charcoal, ebony or umber.

Modern Slate – The biggest problem you face with real slates is how quickly and easily they crack and lose their appearance. Replacing them can be a nightmare. As a solution, why not try our lightweight slates as an alternative as they look practically the same and aren’t affected by the weather. No cracking will take place, and they will retain their appearance, making roof maintenance a thing of the past. These attractive slates can be provided in colours of stone, plum, pewter grey, brick red and black.

Traditional Tile – It makes sense to choose a traditional tile for your roofing system if you have a modern property, but are keen to make sure the extension fits in with its setting. These tiles are beautifully sleek and have a minimalist feel about them.

You can always speak to our member of our team if you need help deciding which ceiling will work best. We cannot overstate the importance of the ceiling, and remember you can integrate heaters, ceiling fans, or even a sound system if you want to pump your favourite tunes into the space.
