Orion’s Guide To Cutting The Cost Of Energy

Orion’s Guide To Cutting The Cost Of Energy

Within a couple of days of taking office. Liz Truss, our now former Prime Minister, told the House of Commons that she would respond to the current energy crisis by freezing the energy price cap at £2,500 a year.

There was a widespread sigh of relief from householders, as the average energy bill has more than doubled over the past year, and was set to double again, if the forecasted predictions of energy experts, like Martin Lewis, were assumed to be correct.

But although the price freeze is very much welcomed, it won’t go far enough for a lot of families.

Speak to your energy company if you are worried about paying for your bills, and also try and reduce your energy consumption with some of our best energy-saving advice.

Clock your time in the shower

You shouldn’t be spending more than five minutes in the shower, as health experts will tell you that doing so is bad for your skin.

If you have a tendency to go over five minutes, set a stopwatch before you step into the shower and force yourself to switch it off when it goes off. This will keep your skin in good condition and also save you money on energy.

Keep using your washing line

For much of the summer, your washing line should have been in use as it has been one of the driest summers that we have had in a long time.

If this autumn and winter are similarly dry, wet clothing needs to be pegged out, rather than dried out indoors on your radiators or in the tumble dryer. This will also minimise the threat of condensation forming on your windows, which can occur from the moisture created from indoor drying.

Ask Orion to install energy efficient windows & doors

The most effective way of reducing your energy costs is to get energy efficient replacement windows and doors fitted to improve the standard of insulation.

Try to look past how much they will initially cost and instead focus on how much they will save you in the long-term – it will be a considerable amount. Far less of the heat generated by your boiler will go to waste, as the windows will keep more of it inside your house and let less of it escape, making for a toasty home environment with an over dependence on energy.
